Ecopedagogy in the construction of citizenship: a review
Journal Title: Social Innova Sciences - Year 2019, Vol 1, Issue 1
Abstract
Man's relations with his environment have not always been entirely harmonious. The increase in population, the development of industries, the increasing need for energy and the development of technology have generated an over-exploitation of natural resources, tending to damage, which in many cases is irreversible, to the environment. Environmental education is presented as the spearhead in the formation of a citizen with environmental awareness, which allows minimizing and in some cases mitigating negative impacts on the environment, hence ecopedagogy as an emerging paradigm, is outlined of fundamental importance. The present review study was carried out with a documentary research scheme, where 65 documents were reviewed, including scientific articles published in indexed journals, book chapters, conference papers, academic papers and e-books. It is imperative that the new planetary environmental citizen be trained under the fundamental precepts of sustainable development, with social, environmental and cultural awareness, towards a true sense of belonging to Mother Earth, of which the human being is a part. It is there where ecopedagogy is presented as the real alternative for the creation of the new planetary environmental citizen, replacing traditional environmental education. of which the human being is a part.
