Edukacyjna rola Kopalni Soli „Wieliczka" - wczoraj i dziś
Journal Title: Geology, Geophysics & Environment - Year 2013, Vol 39, Issue 3
Abstract
During the past centuries, the educational character of the "Wieliczka" Salt Mine was gradually shaped. Only European elites were familiar with the issues of exploiting the Wieliczka salt deposits in the 16th and 17th centuries. After the First Partition of Poland, the Austrian managers of the Salt Mine began to arrange trails for mass tourism. After Poland regained independence, special bonds connected the Salt Mine with the Academy of Mining (presently called the AGH University of Science and Technology). At the end of the 1990s and at the beginning of the 21st century, the educational field trips were based on a network of documented sites and the nature reserve called the Crystal Grottoes. Since 2009, the trips follow the route called "The Mysteries of the Wieliczka Mine." Apart from the AGH University of Science and Technology, classes were also organised for the students of the Jagiellonian University, Pedagogical University of Cracow, University of Wroclaw, Adam Mickiewicz University, University of Silesia, University of Warsaw, and Silesian University of Technology (2001-2012). Foreign students were coming from Kosice, Ostrava, Parma, or Vienna. Approximately 4,800 students participated in field trips and internships in the "Wieliczka" Salt Mine between 2001 and 2012.

The provenance of erratic pebbles from a till in the vicinity of the city of Radom, central Poland
Petrographic analysis, including the indicator erratics count method of coarse pebbles (20–60 mm), was performed for the first subsurface layer of the glacial till in the vicinity of the city of Radom. Crystalline rocks...
Na-P1 zeolite synthesis and its crystalline structure ripening through hydrothermal process using coal combustion by-products as substrates
Energy industry sector is one of the major environment pollutants. This branch also generates significant amounts of by-products such as slugs, slug-ash mixtures, ashes and microspheres, which can be very harmful for the...
Preparation and characterization of azobenzene-smectite photoactive mineral nanomaterials
Smectites are 2:1 layered minerals built of one octahedral sheet located between two tetrahedral sheets. The layer charge derived from the isomorphic substitutions in the mineral structure is compensated by the interlaye...
Identification of tectonic microstructures in flysch sandstones of the Outer Carpathians using X-ray nanotomography and nuclear magnetic resonance – first results
Deformation bands and microfractures occurring in sandstones affect the petrophysical properties of the rock and determine fluid flow. Deformation bands are quasi-tabular structures, up to 5 mm thick that accommodate off...
Arsenate substitution in synthetic hydroxylapatite – structural characterization of the Ca5(PO4)x(AsO4)3-xOH solid solution
Occurences of dissolved As in surface and ground waters and observed adverse health effects have emphasized the need for better understanding of reactions that govern As mobility. Precipitation of Ca apatites is quite of...
