Effect of Arc on Tribological Characteristics of C/C Composites Under Electric Current

Abstract

The friction and wear tests were carried out on an HST-100 high-speed friction and wear testing machine with a pin-on-disc configuration,and the arc images were recorded by a high-speed camera. The effect of arc on the tribological characteristics of C / C composites under electric current was investigated. The research results show that there is a good correlation between the arc area and arc energy. With the increase of the arc area,the wear rate of C / C composites increases,while the friction coefficient decreases firstly and then turns to increasing. The wear mechanism of C / C composites transfers from abrasive wear dominating to arc erosion dominating. The worn surface of the C / C composites is oxidized under the arc erosion.
