Effect of combined perio-orthodontic treatment on periodontal tissues of maxillary incisors – radiological evaluation

Abstract
Aim of the study: To carry out radiological evaluation of the effect of periodontal-orthodontic treatment on chosen parameters of bone defects adjacent to migrated maxillary incisors. Material and methods: The study was carried out on 29 adult patients with chronic periodontitis and migration of maxillary incisors combined with vertical bone defects. These patients were treated by means of a combined perio-orthodontic therapy. Radiological visualisation was accomplished by means of digital radiovisiography technique (Kodak).Results: Significant reduction of all radiologically analyzed parameter values was noted: vertical (p=0.0001) and horizontal (p=0.0004) bone defect dimension and its surface (p=0.0004). Moreover, the mean percentage of bone loss also showed statistically significant decrease on final examination (p=0.00001). Conclusion: The results of radiological examination confirmed beneficial influence of combined perdiodontal and orthodontic treatment on most bone defects adjacent to migrated maxillary incisors as well as reduction of mean percentage of bone loss.
