Effect of different levels of protein in the mixture on the indicators of rearing nutria
Journal Title: Journal of Animal Science, Biology and Bioeconomy - Year 2015, Vol 33, Issue 4
Abstract
Investigations were carried out at the Institute of Small Animals Breeding in Celle (German Federal Republic) within the program of Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung grant in order to determine the influence of different protein contents (12 and 17%) in the rations on the growth rate in nutria rearing. For this purpose 84 Grenland nutria of both sexes were fed ad libitum with the tested mixtures. The animals were marked individually at birth. They were reared in separate pens for males and females. Each animal was weighed at 2 and 4-week intervals and the amounts of feed used were calculated. At the same time the young were fed exclusively on full ration feed containing 12% and 17% of crude protein. The study calculated the daily use of protein and metabolic energy in rearing as well as the mean weight of the animals’ bodies. Increasing the level of protein in full ration feed improved the increase of the body weight of Greenland nutria. Feeding of young coypu which were with their mothers with 17% of protein in the diet resulted in their higher body weight after weaning.

Red grapefruit juice (Citrus paradisi) as a natural substance limiting negative changes in the quality of table eggs during storage
The aim of the study was to assess the possibility of the use of red grapefruit juice (Citrus paradisi) as a material for the hen egg shells coating, which may contribute to slowing down the ageing process during storage...
Effect of glucogenic additive in transition dairy cow diets of varying ruminal starch degradability on blood metabolic profile
The objective of the study was to determine the effects of the supplemental feeding of glucogenic additive and increasing ruminal degradation of dietary starch on the blood biochemical parameters of high-yielding dairy c...
American foulbrood – a dangerous bacterial honey bee disease
Honeybees are exposed to many threats including a bacterial disease called American foulbrood (AFB). The AFB disease is caused by Paenibacillus larvae bacteria, which infects the brood at an early stage of development an...
Cytogenetic mapping of genes from the family HSPB in the pig genome
The proteins from the family HSPB (small heat shock proteins) play a functional role in the regulation of intracellular processes (apoptosis, inflammatory response, chaperone activity concerning the protein folding and a...
An attempt to define suitability of horses for leisure on the basis of riders evaluation and observation of selected stable behaviour
The aim of the study was to design a method for assessing the suitability of horses for leisure. The study involved 12 leisure horses, for which their stable behaviour was explored three times on the basis of five featur...
