Effect of Infusion Therapy on the Level of Ketone Bodies in the Blood of Patients with Diabetes Mellitus Complicated by Ketoacidosis
Journal Title: Міжнародний ендокринологічний журнал - Year 2015, Vol 1, Issue 65
Abstract
The objective of the study was to investigate the effect of infusion therapy with multicomponent solution (Xylat) on the level of ketone bodies in the blood of patients with diabetes mellitus complicated by ketoacidosis. We have examined 35 patients with diabetes mellitus in the state of ketoacidosis: 16 women and 19 men aged 19 to 82 years, 19 people — with diabetes mellitus type 2, 16 — with diabetes mellitus type 1. The level of total ketone bodies in the blood of patients during hospitalization was 4.80 ± 0.65 mmol/l and decreased after treatment to 1.95 ± 0.23 mmol/l (p < 0.01). Acetoacetic acid level was 3.07 ± 0.44 mmol/l and decreased to 1.52 ± 0.22 mmol/l (p < 0.01). The level of β-hydroxybutanoic acid decreased from 1.73 ± 0.40 mmol/l to 0.43 ± 0.07 mmol/l (p < 0.01) within 10 days of infusion therapy. Also, we have found a positive effect of infusion therapy on lipid metabolism and neutral effect on blood osmolarity.
