Effect of planting date and cultivar on contamination amount of maize to dwarf virus, growth and yield of maize
Journal Title: International Journal of Farming and Allied Sciences - Year 2013, Vol 2, Issue 2
Abstract
In order to determine the best planting date and the best corn cultivar against virus of corn in Isfahan, this experiment was carried out on randomized complete block design with four planting dates included May 22 th, May 31th , June 10th , June20th as main plot and three corn cultivars were 370DC, 500SC, 704SC as sub plot. Results showed that maximum compression percent of transmitter cricket of dwarf virus was related to 704 on May 31th and it was 40%. June 20th had the least compression of transmitter cricket, but in this date 704 had the maximum percent of dwarf cricket. In general by later planting date compression of cricket was decreased and it was rising from May 22 th to 31th of May, but after this date, on 10th and 20th of June it was falling. in this experiment traits of yield and yield component severely impressed date and cultivar. Maximum yield was related to planting date of June 20th. Minimum yield was related to planting dates which cricket population and implication percent were excessive. The most suitable planting date in Isfahan was from middle of May to early June. Also in later planting dates, cricket attack was seen. Although among cultivars,704 show the most implication and 370 was a suitable cultivar and it can resist against disease.
