Effect of Preparation Process on Friction and Wear Properties of C/C-SiC Composites

Journal Title: 河南科技大学学报(自然科学版) - Year 2018, Vol 39, Issue 1

Abstract

Carbon/carbon porous body of low density reinforced with carbon fiber needled felt were prepared by chemical vapor infiltration (CVI) .Then C/C-SiC composites were prepared by reactive melt infiltration (RMI) and precursor impregnation pyrolysis (PIP) , respectively. The simulation braking test of the normal landing energy of aircraft was carried out on the MM-3 000 friction and wear tester.Effects of two preparation processes on friction and wear properties of C/C-SiC composites were investigated. The results show that friction properties of C/C-SiC composites fabricated by PIP process are better. The average friction coefficient and wear rate are 0.350 and 3.500 μm/ (side·cycle) respectively. The friction surface is more complete and compact and the abrasive grain is coarse granular. These are the common interaction of abrasive wear, adhesive wear and oxidation wear. The friction surface of C/C-SiC composites prepared by RMI process is rough and without complete friction film, and the abrasive grain is fine particle. These are the common interaction of abrasive wear, fatigue wear, adhesive wear and oxidation wear.
