Effect of replacement fish meal by poultry meal on growth, survival and body composition of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchos mykiss)
Journal Title: International Research Journal of Applied and Basic Sciences - Year 2013, Vol 5, Issue 3
Abstract
An ten-week feeding trial was done to testi the possibility of replacing fish meal with poultry by-product meal (PBM) in diets of rainbow trout(Oncorhynchos my kiss). Five isoenergetic and is onitrogenous pelleted diets were designed to inserting graded levels of PBM. Fish meal was replaced with a graded amounts PBM at 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100% level (PBM0, PBM25, PBM50, PBM75, PBM100 respectively). The rainbow trout fingerlings were accidental distributed into groups of 25 fish (20±3gr) in 300-litter fiberglass tank. In the PBM75 and PBM100 groups, grow thrate and feed efficiency were significantly lower compared to fish fed control diet (P<0.05). The dietary level of PBM (PBM100) did significantly affect the condition factor and survival rate of fish (P<0.05).inclusion of PBM in the trial diets were affected lipid and moisturevalues of the fish carcass.carcass protein of control was slightly higher than that of fish fed PBM-based diets. besides PBM50there was no significant different in carcass ash shown. The results suggested that PBM can bereplaced50% or more of fish meal in diets for rainbow trout withoutadverse effects on fish.
