Effect of salicylic acid on activities of antioxidant enzymes, flowering and fruit yield and the role on reduce of drought stress
Journal Title: International Journal of Farming and Allied Sciences - Year 2014, Vol 3, Issue 9
Abstract
Effect of drought is among the environmental constraints that affect crop growth and crop production worldwide. Drought or water deficit stress elicits many different physiological responses in plants. It causes reduction in leaf water potential, stomatal conductance, nitrate reduction and inhibits leaf enlargement while osmolytes such as total soluble sugars and proline are increased. The decrease in chlorophyll content under drought stress has been considered a typical symptom of oxidative stress and may be the result of pigment photo-oxidation and chlorophyll degradation. Relative water content (RWC), leaf water potential, stomatal resistance, the rate of transpiration, leaf temperature and canopy temperature are important characteristics that influence plant water relations. Salicylic acid (SA) as a potent signaling molecule in plants is involved in eliciting specific responses to biotic and abiotic stresses. Several studies have demonstrated that exogenous SA application enhances plant growth and development.

Dual functional role of Salicylic acid against Fusarium; long lasting priming and direct immediate effect
Priming of defense is a strategy in use by plants exposed to stress to enhance resistance against future stress episodes with minimal associated costs on growth. Here, we test the hypothesis that application of priming...
