Effect of substrates mixtures on conversion phase of Coffea arabica L. cv. ‘Caturra rojo’ plants obtained by somatic embryogenesis
Journal Title: Biotecnología Vegetal - Year 2014, Vol 14, Issue 4
Abstract
The development of somatic embryogenesis of coffee (Coffea spp.) in liquid culture medium is a viable alternative for the propagation of this specie, but high conversion rates are required. The aim of this paper was to determine the effect of substrates elaborated with a mixture of natural zeolite and vermicompost on conversion phase of Coffea arabica L. cv. ‘Caturra rojo’ plants obtained by somatic embryogenesis. Four treatments were used (85% vermicompost -15% zeolite, 75% vermicompost -25% zeolite, 65% vermicompost -35% zeolite, 50% vermicompost -50% zeolite). It was evaluated the plant height, pair leaf number, principal root length, fresh weight and dry weight. It was achieved high survival of plants from somatic embryogenesis in the different treatments, over 89.0%. The mixtures with higher content of vermicompost allowed better results in all the variables evaluated.

Identification and phylogeny of the tomato receptor-like proteins family
The receptor-like proteins (RLPs) play multiple roles in development and defense. In the current work 75 RLPs were identified in tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) using iterative BLAST searches and domain prediction. A p...
Effect of inoculum density and immersion time on the production of potato microtubers in temporary immersion systems and field studies
Microtubers can be easily induced in vitro, however so far their small size and low yield have restricted their use as propagules. Temporary immersion systems were used to produce potato microtubers and the effect of c...
Qualitative morphological characterization in field of Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench cultivars ‘CIAP 132R-05’ plants regenerated via somatic embryogenesis
The phenotypic stability of plants obtained under in vitro conditions is essential for the success of any plant regeneration protocol. The present work was carried out with the aim to characterize morphologically, thro...
Establishment of a clonal bank of Caesalpinia spinosa (Mol.) O. Kuntz by selection of plus trees and grafting
In Ecuador, plant propagation techniques are not available commercially to establish clonal banks of Caesalpinia spinosa (Mol.) O. Kuntz (guarango) plus trees, which limits the development of in vitro propagation proto...
In vitro multiplication of Pinus caribaea var. caribaea
In many species of conifers to achieve plant regeneration via organogenesis from apical shoots and axillary buds had been difficult, and the genus Pinus has not been the exception. For this reason, the present research...
