Effect of Voided Sleepers on Track Structure Dynamics

Abstract
Based on the theory of vehicle-track coupling dynamics, the wheel/rail system dynamic responses are carried out through numerical simulation method when a vehicle passing over voided sleepers. The results show that the wheel/rail dynamical interactions increase when a vehicle passing over the voided sleeper, the displacements of voided sleepers and rail increase, rail/sleeper contact forces and sleeper/ballast contact forces at adjacent sleepers increase also. It is found that the dynamic responses of wheel/rail system increase obviously with the number of voided sleepers increasing, and this will speed up the track deterioration process. Influence of vehicle speed on wheel/rail system dynamic responses was investigated.
