EFFECT ON BONDING OF COMPOSITES USING A TOTAL-ETCH OR SELF-ETCH ADHESIVE TO ENAMEL AFTER BLEACHING
Journal Title: IDA Ludhiana's Journal - Le Dentistry - Year 2017, Vol 1, Issue 2
Abstract
Background:The effect of carbamide peroxide and other bleaching agents on compositeenamel bonding is less known. For this study, bond strength using either a total-etch or selfetching adhesive, toenamel treated with carbamide peroxide was investigated.Materials and Methods:Sixty extracted molars were taken and sectioned into two parts, each one allocated to; (n=60): bleach (Zoom Nite White, 16% carbamide peroxide) or untreated (control). The surfaces were bonded with a total-etch bonding system (AdperSingle Bond 2) or a self-etching primer system (Adper SE Bond) and tested using a bond strength test. Results:Significant differences were found between bonding to both the systems. SE Bond showed the highest bond strength to untreated enamel (p < 0.05). Bond strength of SE Bond decreased significantly when the enamel was treated with carbamide peroxide (p < 0.05). Such a decrease was not noted with total etch adhesive. Conclusion:The findings suggest that bond strength of composite to enamel using self-etching priming adhesive isseverely affected if the enamel is treated with a bleaching agent.
