Effectiveness of Rotary Protaper Retreatment Files with and without Solvent versus Hedstrom files and K-flex files with Solvent for removing Gutta-Percha from Root Canal

Journal Title: Journal of Advanced Medical and Dental Sciences Research - Year 2017, Vol 5, Issue 10

Abstract

Aims and Objective: Protaper universal retreatment files are recently introduced rotary system for gutta-percha removal and few studies were found to support its use. So an attempt was made to compare its efficiency with other hand instruments. Methods: A total of 48 samples were divided randomly into four groups, each with 12 samples selected for study. All canals were prepared using crown down technique and a master greater taper gutta-percha cone was condensed. The prepared roots were assigned to one of four groups as Group -A (K-Flexofiles with chloroform), GROUP B (Hedstrom files with chloroform), GROUP C (Retreatment Protaper alone) and GROUP D (Protaper Retreatment file with chloroform). The quantitative data was analyzed using SPSS 16.0 software package. The statistical difference was considered as p < 0.05. Result: There was no significant difference in debris left between K-Flexo files and Hedstrom files. But when K-Flexofiles were compared with Protaper universal retreatment files with and without chloroform there was a significant difference. In the current study retreatment was performed in significantly less time using rotary instruments compared to Hedstrom files and K-Flexofiles. Conclusion: The results of the present study are in favor of rotary Protaper universal retreatment files in its efficiency both in removal of filling material and time taken
