Effects of Anthropometry on Mini Volleyball Players’ Serve Performance

Journal Title: Beden Eğitimi ve Spor Araştırmaları Dergisi - Year 2017, Vol 9, Issue 1

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of anthropometric measures on volleyball serve performance on mini volleyball players. 14 female and 17 male mini volleyball (a modified volleyball game) players, aged 10 and 11, participated in this study voluntarily. One of the major factors that affects success in volleyball is the serve. The serve performance of the subjects were evaluated by using the underhand serve performans test battery, which was developed by the author. The results of the data analysis revealed that there was no difference on serve performance between the male subjects but between the female subjects (p<0.01). It was concluded that anthropometric characteristics should be carefully assessed in the adolescent period when evaluating the sports performance of the athletes who are in this period, as it is known that differences in anthropometric characteristics might occur and some performance differences depending on development and maturation rate may be seen during this period. It should also be kept in mind that the advantage/disadvantage may be neutralized over time.
