Effects of Brassica Green Manure on Tobacco Root Growth and Soil Enzyme Activity

Abstract
To investigate the effects of Brassica green manure on flue-cured tobacco production in the western region of Henan province,a field experiment was conducted to study the effects of three Brassica plants as green manure on tobacco root growth and soil enzyme activity. The results show that compared with the control,the treatments with green manure application during idle time not noly significantly increase the root activity,the root length,root volume,and root dry weight of tobacco at different developmental stages,but also significantly improve the soil enzyme activities of urease,sucrase,protease and catalase. Compared with the effects of three Brassica green manure plants,the tobacco root growth and soil enzyme activity are higher in the treatment with rape green manure. It is suggested that Brassica rape is suitable as green manure during idle time of flue-cured tobacco production in the western region of Henan province.
