Effects of Community and Social Development Projects on Rural Communities in North Central Nigeria.

Abstract
This study was designed to evaluate the effects of CSDP projects on communities in North Central, Nigeria. A survey was conducted in selected Local Government Areas of Benue, Nassarawa, and Plateau States, Nigeria, to assess the effects of community and Social Development Projects on rural communities in North Central, Nigeria. The population of the study consisted of all beneficiaries in the study area. However, a sample size of 458 respondents was (458 retriev- -ed) selected using simple random, sampling techniques. Data for this study were collected mainly from primary sources, through the use of a well-structured questionnaire. The data was analyzed using percentages, means and standard deviation. It was found that among the respondents in the study area, the respondents in the benefiting communities strongly agreed that the infrastructures provided by the CSDP had great effect in the various aspects on the beneficiaries. From the results obtained, the study concludes that CSDP projects had significantly affected the rural communities in north central, Nigeria. This study recommen- -ded that the project be replicated in more communities and the strategy of community driven development be adopted by local governments, states and federal government so that the people to whom the development is meant for will be at the driver’s seat.
