Effects of concentrated diet and baker’s yeast on rumen lactate bacteria
Journal Title: World Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences - Year 2016, Vol 4, Issue 9
Abstract
A field experiment was conducted with forty eight male lambs aged 4-5 months and 27±1.78kg in weight. The Lambs were divided into four equal groups using 2 × 2 factorial experiment to study the effect of two ratios for roughage: concentrate (R: C): 60:40 and 40:60 with or without Saccharomyces cerevisiae (SC) 0 and 5g/head/day on rumen lactate bacteria. Concentrate feeding was offered to achieve 150 g/ daily gain. The composition of concentrated feed was barley, corn, wheat bran, wheat and soybean meal, formulated using Pearson Square method to achieve 14% crud protein while the roughage was alfalfa hay. High concentrated feed (40:60) leads to increase lactate bacteria under anaerobic conditions with no effect on rumen pH. Saccharomyces cerevisiae leads to increase in lactate bacteria numbers with aerobic and anaerobic conditions.
