Effects of Different Salt (NaCl) Concentration on Germination of Some Barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) Cultivars
Journal Title: ÇOMÜ Ziraat Fakültesi Dergisi - Year 2017, Vol 5, Issue 2
Abstract
In this study, effects of different salt (NaCl) concentrations (control, 2.5, 5.0, 7.5, 10.0 g⋅L-1) on germination and early seedling growth characteristics of barley cultivars were investigated. Karatay-94, Larende, Samyeli and Şahin-91, which are double-row barley cultivars, were used as a plant material and germination rate (%), shoot and root length (cm), shoot fresh and dry weight (mg), root fresh and dry weight (mg) and salt tolerant index (%) parameters were determined. Barley cultivars showed different responses to salt concentrations, and increased salt concentrations were found to have a statistically significant negative effect on all parameters examined. According to results, Şahin-91 were obtained comparatively higher tolerance to salinity than the other cultivars.
