Determining the Agricultural Mechanization Level of South Marmara Development Region

Journal Title: ÇOMÜ Ziraat Fakültesi Dergisi - Year 2018, Vol 6, Issue 1

Abstract

This research was carried out to determine the changing of mechanization level among 1997 and 2016 years in South Marmara Development Region (GMKA). In determining the mechanization indicators, Turkish Statistical Institute database was used. In the assessment of mechanization level of GMKA consisting of Balıkesir and Çanakkale provinces; tractor power per arable land (kW/ha), tractor number per arable land (tractor/1000ha), arable land per tractor (ha/tractor) indicators were considered. GMKA’s mechanization level was assessment, depending on years, by examining of relationship between the cumulative values of arable land, tractor power and number. Furthermore, tractor lifespan was also considered and, the tractor numbers added to and removed from the economic tractor park were calculated. It was assumed that the economic lifespan was 20 years by take into account international standards and Turkey’s tractor using conditions such as annual using time. Tractor park which is the one of the most important indicators was discussed by considering the two different perspectives as cumulative park and economic park. Consequently it was found that there were significant differences between agricultural mechanization level indicators which depend on years by means of the two perspectives. The mechanization level tended to increase steadily according to cumulative data, while the evaluation results of economic park data showed a declining trend due to years. Hereby the evaluation of the agricultural mechanization level of any region on the basis of economic tractor park data will provide more accurate approaches.
