Effects of electric field aging on the precipitation of θ(Al2Cu) phase in 2014 aluminum alloy

Abstract
Effects of the electric field aging at 170 ℃ for 6, 8, 10 and 12 h on precipitation behaviors of 2014 aluminum alloy were investigated by transmission electron microscope (TEM). The results show that electric field can reduce the size of the precipitation phase θ(Al2Cu) and increase the dispersion of the fine precipitations. Especially, this kinds of effect is very evident when the aging time is 12 h, the dispersion degree of the fine precipitations is increased with increasing the intensity of electric field. This is because that the nucleation and growth of the precipitation phase θ(Al2Cu) are changed by the electric field aging.
