Effects of Environmentally Friendly Plasticizers on High and Low Temperature Performance of Natural Modified Asphalt

Abstract

In order to explore the effects of different environmental plasticizers on the high and low temperature performance of different natural asphalts, the high and low temperature rheological properties of environmentally friendly plasticizers and natural asphalt composite modified asphalt with different dosages were studied by the dynamic shear rheological test ( DSR) and low temperature bending rheology tests ( BBR) . The high and low temperature properties of each composite modified asphalt mixture were evaluated by rutting test and low temperature bending test. The results show that different environmentally friendly plasticizers effectively improve the low temperature grade of natural modified asphalt binders but reduce their high temperature grade.When the plasticizer dosage is more than 4%, the high temperature grade is lowered by one grade. Different environmentally friendly plasticizers effectively improve the low temperature performance of natural modified asphalt mixture but reduce its high temperature performance. At the same time, the greater the amount of environmentally friendly plasticizer, the more obvious the increase in bending strain, and the more serious the decrease in dynamic stability. Comprehensive considering of environmentally friendly plasticizers and natural asphalt composite modified asphalt, and high temperature performance of its mixture, the 4% dosage is used as the optimum dosage.
