Effects of social factors on the index of stomatognathic system dysfunction

Abstract

Aim of the study. To analyse the effects of social factors on the value of the stomatognathic system dysfunction index. Material and methods. The study involved 220 (100%) patients with temporomandibular joint disorders. The following methods were used: clinical-functional examination of stomatognathic system, estimation of extent and frequency of mioarthropatic symptoms defined by Helkimo Index and statistical analysis.Results. No significant correlations between social factors, such as place of living, living conditions, ability to relax or marital status and stomatognathic system index were found.Conclusions. Social factors do not influence the dysfunction index and they should not be incorporated into the etiopathogenic chain of this disease.
