Efficiency and Safety of Metformine and Pioglitazone in Patients with Coronary Heart Disease and Diabetes Mellitus Type 2
Journal Title: Міжнародний ендокринологічний журнал - Year 2015, Vol 2, Issue 66
Abstract
A combination of metformin (MF) (2 g daily) and pioglitazone (PG) (30 mg daily) in 57 patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) and diabetes mellitus type 2 (DM 2) reduces the indicators of low grade chronic inflammation (CI): tumor necrosis factor alpha in blood — by 5 times in 6 months of treatment, interleukin-6 — by a 4 times compared to baseline. This combination is safe, has a positive clinical effect on CHD and more effectively normalizes glycated hemoglobin level in patients compared with a combination of MF and sulfonylurea. Since CI is a trigger for the development of atherosclerosis, CHD, arterial hypertension and DM 2, a combination of MF and PG should be considered as an effective and safe agent for the prevention and treatment of these diseases that is confirmed by analysis of modern scientific literature.
