Efficiency of diagnostics of cattle toxoplasmosis with the help of the immune biosensor

Journal Title: Біологія тварин - Year 2016, Vol 18, Issue 4

Abstract

For life-time toxoplasmosis diagnostics a significant number of laboratory methods were offered. However, their effectiveness is not always sufficient to the needs of specialists of veterinary medicine. In this regard a new method of life-time diagnostics of this disease using immune biosensor “Plazmotest” based on surface plasma resonance (SPR) was developed and tested. The study of blood serum of cattle in order to establish the diagnosis of toxoplasmosis was conducted in laboratories of Biosensors and Department of Parasitology and Tropical Veterinary NULES of Ukraine during 2014–2016. In the experiments 48 animals of different cattle breeds hold in different conditions were used. The age of animals was from 5 months to 7 years. The results of investigations of blood sera with the help of immune biosensor showed a higher effectiveness regarding its detection an agent of parasitic unicellular organism Toxoplasma gondii in the of cattle organism compared to the results obtained by applying the method of enzyme immunoassay (ELISA). No significant difference of the degree of infection with toxoplasmosis agent in cattle males and females was found. An increase of the infestation intensity with the age of animals was proved. So, at the age of four years, 4.8 % of the animals reacted positively to the presence of antibodies to Toxoplasma, while in cattle older than four years — 29.6 %.
