Electromagnetic analysis of magnetorheological brakes

Abstract

Purpose: In this proposed work, make a electromagnetic analysis of magnetorheologicalbrake for creating the automobile structure under the drive by wire concept.Design/methodology/approach: The proposed brake system consists of rotating diskswith shaft and immersed in a MR fluid and enclosed in an electromagnet. When the currentis passing through the coil wire then electromagnet is formed and magnetic field is applied.Due to the external magnetic filed, the MR fluid is converted to semi solid state and discproduced shear friction generating the braking torque. The relationship between the electriccurrent and braking torque can be determined using electromagnetic analysis created onAutoCAD-2D model and analysed in ANSYS electromagnetics Software. In this work varioustypes of MR fluids has been tested.Findings: In this study paper are presented at electromagnetic magnetic analysis aresolved using ANSYS 15 and determined magnetic field applied on MR Brake and generatingbraking torque.Research limitations/implications: In an electromagnetic analysis was also carriedout to magnetic distribution of the MR fluid with in brake. For various speed of rpm, whena current of 2A is applied of MRB and No. of coil 300, with the help of analytical model andmagneto-static analysis the braking torque obtained.
