Electromagnetic weapons
Journal Title: Інформаційні системи, механіка та керування - Year 2017, Vol 0, Issue 17
Abstract
Electromagnetic weapons are weapons in which a magnetic field is used to give the initial speed to the projectile, or the energy of electromagnetic radiation is used directly for the target's destruction. In the first case, the magnetic field is used as an alternative to explosives in firearms. The second type of weapons is positioned as safe one for humans. It serves to disable electrical and electronic equipment as a result of the overvoltage. Low-frequency electromagnetic weapons create electromagnetic pulsed radiation at frequencies below 1 MHz, high-frequency electromagnetic weapons are affected by microwave radiation of both pulsed and long-term effects. Low-frequency electromagnetic weapons affect the object through interference to wired infrastructure, including telephone lines, external power cables, and wireless communications. High-frequency electromagnetic weapons directly affect the radio-electronic equipment of the object through its antenna system. In addition to the enemy's radio electronic equipment influence, high-frequency electromagnetic weapons can also negatively affect the skin and internal organs of a person. Despite the fact that the field of development and creation of electromagnetic weapons is still at the initial stage of its formation, it is already possible to propose a classification of the main types of EMP weapons, which is presented in Fig. The classification of this type of weapon is based on the principle of the possibility of its damaging effect depending on the area of the defeat, namely, EMR weapons as a global and local impact.
