Electronic Apex Locators- An overview
Journal Title: IP Indian Journal of Conservative and Endodontics - Year 2017, Vol 2, Issue 2
Abstract
Successful root canal treatment depends on thorough cleaning & shaping and 3- dimensional fluid impervious obturation of tooth within the confines of canals. To achieve this objective the apical constriction must be detected accurately during canal preparation and precise control over working length during the procedure must be maintained. There are many methods of working length determination including electronic method. Introduction of apex locators have definitely served as an effective adjuvant to radiographs. This article highlights the details of electronic apex locators which are available till now including development, generations, historical background, mode of action, classification, problems associated with the use and clinical acceptance.

Successful endodontic management of permanent maxillary first molar with six root canals by CBCT as a diagnostic aid
The possibility of morphologic variations in the tooth should never be misapprehended and thorough knowledge of their variations is the cue to a successful root canal treatment. Maxillary first molar have been studied fo...
Instrument retrieval from maxillary central incisor: A case report
Fracture of an instrument during endodontic treatment is a common procedural error which often hinders the root canal procedure and affects the outcome The separated instrument particularly a broken file leads to metalli...
Effectiveness of an in-office calcium-phosphate-based desensitizer: A six-month randomized-controlled trial and a SEM study of in-vivo treated teeth
Aim: The aim of this single-centre, triple-blind, randomized controlled clinical trial was to evaluate the effectiveness of an in-office desensitizing agent containing tetracalcium phosphate and dicalcium phosphate anhyd...
Endodontic Enigma: A case report series of mandibular premolars with two root canals
Endodontic treatment success depends on biomechanical preparation and 3D obturation Mandibular premolars have been reported with aberrant anatomy The endodontic treatment of mandibular premolars may have major failure du...
Radiological and clinical assessment of pulpotomy on mature permanent molars with irreversible pulpitis: literature review
Introduction Endodontic treatment has long been considered the only conservative therapeutic option for teeth with irreversible acute pulpitis Histological studies have shown that the inflammation is confined to a limite...
