Electronic Information System Based Student Attendence Control System
Journal Title: Bilgi Yönetimi - Year 2018, Vol 1, Issue 1
Abstract
The need to regularly record student attendance in education and training institutions and the time lost in this period is a problem. At the same time, different problems can arise due to lost or forgotten attendance sheets. In these institutions, student and faculty member information is shared via a web service and used in cafeterias, door entrances etc. In addition, the information of the enrolled classes and the curriculums created accordingly are also part of the electronic information systems. An electronic attendance system, which can be developed using existing systems and recorded information, can reduce user burden without incurring too much cost and record student attendance information while providing data security. In this study, a secure electronic attendance system based on radio frequency identification has been developed in which user information is quarried via the web service, which reduces the workload by ensuring that student attendances are regularly checked. The terminal of the developed modular system is placed in the classrooms and the information such as course information, instructor's name and surname, course start and end times are presented to the user through the graphic screen. Before the beginning of the class, the system starts the attendance period and by reading his card to the system in the class, the instructor starts the course. The students who read the cards in the beginning of the class and read their student cards at the end of the class are recorded as “present” to the system. Attendance information is processed in the database and can be shared with instructors when requested. In this article, first, the components of the developed electronic information system based student attendance control system is introduced, the operation steps are explained and the tests performed with the system are given. It has been observed that the system reduces the attendance period especially in the classrooms where the number of students is high. Also the system makes the attendance control process trustful by recording the entrance and exit times. Furthermore, the ability to integrate the developed system with existing systems offers cost effective and modular ease of implementation for many organizations.
