Emergence Delirium: Revisiting A Clinical Enigma
Journal Title: International Journal of Anesthesiology & Research (IJAR) - Year 2013, Vol 1, Issue 3
Abstract
Delirium seems to result from the interaction between pre-operative patient vulnerabilities and exposure to precipitating factors. Postoperative delirium (POD) is often observed in elderly patients undergoing orthopedic surgery, particularly hip fracture repair and may persist for several days postoperatively. Emergence delirium (ED) is known as an acute agitation and confusion occurring during or immediately following emergence from general anesthesia, in the OR orpost anesthesia care unit. Stress and inflammation are important triggers in the development of delirium.

Neurophysiological Monitoring during Surgery on the Central Nervous System: The Role of Evoked Responses
Neurosurgical, orthopedic and vascular interventions may be associated with an inherent risk of ischemia and structural damage to the central nervous system. Along with other modalities used to monitor the intraoperative...
NASA Task Load Index Scale to Evaluate the Cognitive Workload during Cardiac Anesthesia Based Simulation Scenarios
Simulation-based education is an important tool for anesthesiology educators given the work hour restrictions and limited exposure of anesthesiology residents to high acuity cardiac cases. Cognitive load is key to learni...
Anesthetic Consideration For Laparoscopic Surgery
Minimally invasive surgical procedures aim to minimize the tissue trauma but still achieve a satisfactory therapeutic result. Tissue trauma is significantly less than conventional open procedure. Laparoscopy is the proce...
