Abstract
Arkadiusz Rzepkowski EUROPEAN AND EXTRA-EUROPEAN EMIGRATION FROM ŁÓDŹ VOIVODESHIP AT SECOND HALF OF THE 1920S AND ITS RELIGIOUS AND ETHNIC COMPOSITIONS The primary data are culled from ‘Statistical Yearbooks of Polish Republic II’ edited by Chief Bureau of Statistics of the Polish Republic of the 1927–1930. They are related to statistical data from the latter half of the ‘twenties of twentieth century (1925–1929). Economical reasons made people emigrate from Poland, they headed mainly West – European countries and both the American continents. Overpopulation in the countryside was still a large problem in spite of the current economic recovery in the latter half of twentieth century. The result of that was overmanning in agriculture. Because of unknown ethnicity it is impossible to establish precisely the nationalistic structure of 75.54% emigrants. It was only known, that 19.97% people going abroad and leaving the province were Poles, 3.88% – Jews, 0.52% – Germans and other nations – 0.09%. Emigrants’ nationalistic structure made an impact on their denominationalcomposition. Yet, taking the whole country under consideration, doubts exist regarding the emigrants’ denominational structure at that time. Statistics note a large percentage of people of unknown confession like it is in the case of the national structure. Catholics, Uniates, Poles of the Mosaic Faith, Orthodox and Protestants were the most numerous groups of people leaving Poland at that time.
