Abstract

Tomasz Pietras MARRIAGE CONNECTIONS OF THE OPOROWSKI FAMILY IN THE 15TH AND IN THE FIRST HALF OF THE 16TH CENTURY In the Late Middle Ages among main determinants of the position of the rich nobles were marriages contracted as a consequence of the deliberated matrimonial policy. Matrimonial colligations of the Oporowskis – and deriving from their: the Chodowskis, Służewskis, Miłońskis, Goślubskis – were described in this article. In the end of the 14th century, when the Oporowskis were at the beginnig of their career, the maidens from this family were married by men belonging to the middle nobility and living – as the Oporowskis – in the Łęczyca district. The first marriage with a women, who was outside this territory, was contracted in 1403. Mikołaj Oporowski (the future voivode of Łęczyca) married Krzystka of Służewo. He became a proprietor of the rich estate in Cuiavia. Climax of the political power of the mentioned family felt on the 2. half of the 15th and at the beginning of the 16th century. They married to the members of the most important families in Poland. In result of the matrimonial policy of the Oporowskis and their relatives, they became proprietors of rich estates and received high offices. They played important roles in the royal court.
