EMOTIONAL COMPETENCE AS AN INDICATOR OF THE PERSONALITY PSYCHOLOGICAL HEALTH OF FUTURE DOCTORS

Abstract

The development of the emotional competence of future doctors is an important task of modern medical education. It’s an important part of professional development and personal development, and it’s necessary for maintaining psychological health of future doctors. Theoretical and methodological aspects of the study of emotional competence and emotional intelligence are reflected by such scientists as: I. Andreeva, T. Berezovsky, G. Berezyuk, I. Vetrova, L. Vygotsky, Gorkova, S. Derevyanko, S. Rubinstein, O. Leontiev, E. Nosenko, K. Saarni (C. Saarni, 1990); R. Basque (R. Busk, 1991); P. Selovey, J. Meyer (P. Salovey, J.D. Mayer, 1994); D. Goleman (D. Goleman, 1995); R. Bar-On (R. Bar-On, 2000 A. Pankratova, O. Sergienko, A. Stepnova, A. Filatova, G. Yusupova, O. Yakovleva and others). Our research objective contains from: the implementation of the theoretical and methodological analysis of the concept of “emotional competence”; determination and disclosure of the structure and basic components of emotional competence of personality; substantiation the social significance of the phenomena of “emotional competence” and “emotional intelligence” as important qualities of the personality’s psychological health of future doctors. To realize the research objective, we have defined the following tasks: to determine the correlation between the concepts of “emotional competence” and “emotional intelligence”, to substantiate the correlation between the “emotional competence” and the “psychological health” of the future medical specialist, to analyze the main components and competences of the future doctors’ “emotional competence”. Research methods. We used the basic methods of the theoretical and methodological research: analysis of scientific psychological sources; synthesis, generalization and systematization of received scientific psychological information on the content and definitions of the concepts of “emotional competence”, “emotional intelligence”, “psychological personality health”, comparison the basic theoretical approaches of “emotional competence” and “emotional intelligence” in modern psychological science. The topicality of the improving of “emotional intelligence” and “emotional competence” of medical students as an important component of their psychological health and harmonious development is substantiated. “Emotional competence” is considered as a complete personality property that that includes the skills on reflection, self-control, empathy and expressive; is appeared in the readiness and ability of a person to manage own and other people emotional reactions flexibly, be adequate to changing situations and conditions. Are determined the basic components of medical students’ emotional competence such as skills in reflection and self-regulation, optimal level of empathy and expressiveness, enthusiasm for own activity, sensitivity, sincerity, calmness, balance, emotional stability. Conclusions and further research perspectives. The theoretical analysis has demostrated that emotional competence provides the integral and progressive development of the emotional sphere of the personality, it’s represents a set of knowledge, skills and abilities that allow to act adequately on the basis of processing all emotional information. Emotional competence facilitates to the suumury analysis of emotional situations and promotes the development of the individual psychological health. The high level of emotional competence and emotional intelligence is a precondition for mental health and success in future medical profession. The development of emotional competence of future medical professionals (doctors) will promote professional development and personal improvement, updating adaptive ability preservation of health and prevention of “professional burnout”, harmonious functioning in society and life achievements. For our conviction, the emotional competence can be and should be a special aspect of training in modern medical practice training. Because an orientation in own emotional world, and, consequently, adequate behavior allows for harmonious interaction in the professional environment and with the outside world. The necessity of empirical research and the completing the optimal program for the emotional competence development in the further scientific research of the mentioned problem is substantiated. The purpose of the optimal program for the development of emotional competence is its implementation in the educational process in medical educational establishments.
