EMOTIONAL CONCEPT LOVE IN ENGLISH NICKNAMES

Abstract

The article analyzes emotionally expressive function of nicknames. Emotional meanings that reflect basic human emotions are universal, and their manifestation in nicknames’ lexical nominations vary with degrees of depth and different aspects. Emotional lexemes express positive or negative emotional evaluation, subjective determination of the object status, emotionally expressive approving or disapproving of somebody or something. We consider the nicknames as semantically related to one of the six basic emotions models – Love. Subjects of nicknames nominations intend to express maternal love, romantic love, affection, infatuation, and other subtypes of love estimating the activities of others and expressing emotional evaluation.
