Emotywizm etyczny A. J Ayera i C. Stevensona

Abstract

In the 1930s, a new current in philosophy arose called logical positivism. The main tenet of this movement was the principle of verification. It claims that a statement only has meaning if it is either analytic or empirically verifiable. Thus it follows that propositions about right and wrong are meaningless. They are neither true nor false, because they do not actually say anything But if ethical statements don’t State truths, and therefore are literally meaningless, what is their function? A. J. Ayer and C. L. Stevenson argued that ethical judgements express feelings. The theory of ethics which preaches such convictions is called „emotivism”. The article presents the very beginnings and early development of the emotive theory in ethics.
