Enhancing Grade 5 Learners’ Academic Success Through Parental Coaching in Science Self-Learning Modules in the New Normal

Abstract

The study was conducted to ensure the learners’ academic success in Science self-learning modules at home due to the absence of face-to-face classes. Moreover, this study intended to continue learning science subject even we were on the fight amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. The intervention used was coaching the parents in science self-learning modules to enhance the grade 5 learners’ academic success in the new normal. The participants were the five learners of the Grade – 5 section Jacinto of Tador and Masaglang Elementary School. The study utilized the simplest form of data triangulation technique, which used a variety of information or data sources in order to increase the validity of results and give a more detailed and balanced picture of the situation through pretest and posttest results, teacher’s observations, and teacher’s interview. Results revealed that coaching the parents in science self-learning modules increases the scores of the learners. Hence, the intervention was effective in enhancing learners’ academic success in science self-learning modules.
