Epidemiological characteristics of the notifiable infectious diseases reported in Shanghai in 2020

Abstract
ObjectiveTo understand the epidemic characteristics of notifiable infectious diseases ï¼NIDsï¼ other than coronavirus disease 2019 ï¼COVID-19ï¼ in Shanghai in 2020ï¼ and to provide evidence for formulating infectious disease prevention and control strategies.MethodsData of NIDs reported in Shanghai from 2015 to 2020 were collected through the National Information System for Disease Control and Prevention. Descriptive epidemiological methods were used to analyze the incidence and prevalence characteristics of NIDs in Shanghai in 2020ï¼ and compared them with the average values of 2015 to 2019.ResultsA total of 45 574 cases of 23 kinds of NIDs were reported in Shanghai in 2020ï¼ except for COVID-19ï¼ with an incidence of 187.69/105ï¼ and a decrease rate of 50.58% compared with the average value of 2015 to 2019. The incidence of category B and C infectious diseases decreased by 38.07% and 57.47%ï¼ respectively ï¼All P<0.001ï¼. The top 3 reported infectious diseases with the highest incidence rate were influenza ï¼64.58/105ï¼ï¼ syphilis ï¼39.09/105ï¼ and tuberculosis ï¼24.90/105ï¼. The incidence of most infectious diseases decreased compared with the average of 2015 to 2019ï¼ among which measles ï¼97.15%ï¼ï¼ rubella ï¼88.81%ï¼ï¼ pertussis ï¼87.43%ï¼ï¼ hand foot mouth disease ï¼85.99%ï¼ and scarlet fever ï¼79.84%ï¼ decreased significantly ï¼all P<0.001ï¼. In generalï¼ compared with the average from 2015 to 2019ï¼ respiratory infectious diseases declined mostï¼ followed by intestinal infectious diseasesï¼ insect-borne and natural focal infectious diseasesï¼ blood-borne and sexually transmitted diseases. Districts with higher incidence in 2020 were Fengxian District ï¼310.23/105ï¼ï¼ Xuhui District ï¼271.93/105ï¼ and Hongkou District ï¼254.38/105ï¼. Respiratory infectious diseases in Fengxian Districtï¼ intestinal infectious diseases in Jinshan Districtï¼ blood-borne and sexually transmitted infectious diseases in Changning Districtï¼ and insect-borne and natural focal infectious diseases in Yangpu District showed the highest incidence rate. Incidence of infectious diseases in 16 districts of Shanghai decreased with different degrees ï¼all P<0.001ï¼. Incidence of infectious diseases in males ï¼209.44/105ï¼ was higher than that in females ï¼164.89/105ï¼ ï¼Ï2=624.864ï¼ P<0.001ï¼. Children aged 0-9 years had the highest incidence of respiratory and intestinal infectious diseases. People aged 70â79 years and 20â29 years had higher incidence of blood-borne and sexually transmitted infectious diseasesï¼ and people aged 20â29 years had the highest incidence of insect-borne and natural focal infectious diseases. Majority of the patients were students ï¼8 327 casesï¼ 18.27%ï¼ï¼ retired people ï¼6 393 casesï¼ 14.03%ï¼ and unemployed household workers ï¼5 988 casesï¼ 13.14%ï¼.ConclusionUnder the COVID-19 prevention and control policiesï¼ the incidence of most NIDs in Shanghai decreased significantly in 2020.
