Journal Title: Archivum Anatolicum-Anadolu Arsivleri - Year 2016, Vol 10, Issue 1

Abstract

Children were an important part of life in Ancient Mesopotamia as they are in the communities of this age. Children were seen as warrant of the continuation of generation and social life. Protecting the children against external threats was one of the major responsibilities of families in archaic age societies as it is now. In Ancient Mesopotamia, children used to grow up and socialize in a family in which the father is the authority. In the societies of ancient age, children were grown up deprived of their free will and in accordance with their families’ will and society’s tradition. Freedom of children was restricted. This situation is the same for modern communities. In Ancient Mesopotamia, some articles of law and various documents were related to children. Those documents included some issues such as protecting the children, adopting, educating the children, curatorship and right of succession.
