Journal Title: International Journal of Farming and Allied Sciences - Year 2014, Vol 3, Issue 1

Abstract

The essential oil was obtained by hydro-distillation from the aerial parts of Satureja hortensis L. and Satureja sahendica Bornm cultivated in Iran. The chemical composition of essential oil was determined using Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry. Twenty eight components were identified in the essential oil of S. hortensis. The major components were carvacrol ( ), γ- Terpinene ( ), P-cymene ( ) and α-terpinene ( ). Thirty three components were identified in S. sahendica essential oil. The major components were thymol ( ), P-cymene ( )، γ-Terpinene ( ), and α-terpinene ( ).
