Estimation of repeatability of the reference position in the instrumental analysis of the temporomandibular joints.
Journal Title: Prosthodontics - Year 2011, Vol 61, Issue 3
Abstract
Diagram of Posselt is showing graphical movements of mandible. In the horizontal plane shows the difference between the positioning of incisal point in central occlusion (ICP) and retruded contact position. With retruded contact position is connected term reference position which is a reference to the clinical relationship of the mandible. This term means the position of the mandible reached through her conduct to the retruded position, in which movement in the joints of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is a pure rotation around his stabile hinge axis. This is the starting position for the clinical functional analysis.Aim of the studyAim of the study was to estimate the repeatability of the reference position as a clinical position of the mandible for instrumental analysis of TMJ function.Materials and methods. The study was performed in 10 patients with complete dental arches. Determined position of the reference method proposed by Slaviček and recorded using the Compact Cadiax. Registration of the position of mandible was by using the silicone material. Reference position was recorded using Arcus Digma in position registrated by silicon material. All measurements were made three times.ResultsThe repeatability of all three measurements were obtained in 3 patients, in 5 cases, consistent results were after 2, and 2 patients - all measurements differed.ConclusionProposed by Slaviček method for determining clinical reference position is repeatable to an extent sufficient to perform according to the instrumental analysis of TMJ function
