ESTIMATION OF THE EFFICIENCY OF BREAKING SYSTEMS FOR VEHICLES USING A TEST STAND
Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2015, Vol 260, Issue 2
Abstract
An attempt at an estimation of vehicles braking system efficiency, after corrosion exposure in humid conditions, is described. Based on brake test bench examinations, it is stated that halting a vehicle with mass higher than 1300 kg for longer than 10 days causes a decrease in breaking process efficiency. The reasons for this behaviour are oxide layers created on the working surfaces of cast iron discs and drums. Repeated braking attempts remove the oxide layers ineffectively, which leads to the decreasing of friction forces and increasing of braking distance. In 28% of examined 250 vehicles, the reason for inefficiency was the corrosion because of longer periods of halting.
