Ethical Behaviors of Teachers and Attitudes of Students Towards Music Lesson

Abstract

In this study, it was aimed to examine the relationship between teacher ethical behaviours and primary school 4th grade students' attitudes towards music course, and to examine ethical behaviours and attitudes towards music course according to some demographic variables. In the descriptive survey model study, primary school 4th grade teachers (n=84) and students (n=130) were included in the study group. The data were collected through the Teacher Ethical Behaviours Scale and Attitude Towards Music Lesson Scale. Nonparametric tests were used to analyse the data. As a result, it was observed that teachers generally had a positive view of teaching and students' mental images of music lessons contained positive elements. It was found that teacher ethical behaviours did not differ according to gender, age and seniority years, and the attitudes of female students towards music lessons were found to be more positive than male students. While the status of playing or having played a musical instrument did not make a difference in attitudes towards music lessons, it was determined that attitudes towards music lessons were more positive in the case of having close relatives who played a musical instrument. It was found that there was no significant relationship between teachers' ethical behaviours towards teaching profession and students' attitudes towards music lessons.
