Ethical Issues in Clinical Decision-making and the Path to Shared Decision-making

Journal Title: Medicine and Philosophy - Year 2024, Vol 45, Issue 24

Abstract

This article expounds the ethical issues in clinical decision-making and the role of shared decision-making in addressing these challenges from four aspects: the process of clinical decision-making under ethical considerations, ethical issues of clinical decision-making, the connotation and significance of doctor-patient shared decision-making, and case studies of shared decision-making. In the process of clinical decision-making, doctors need to adopt a humanistic approach to medicine, carefully consider the ethical issues in the process of clinical decision-making, and adhering to the ethical principles of respect, non-harm, beneficence, and fairness. Through effective communication and exchange between physicians and patients, patients and their families should be fully informed and provide voluntary consent, leading to optimized shared decisions. This approach ensures the rationality and ethical soundness of clinical decisions, offering insights and references for improving doctor-patient relationships, safeguarding patients' rights, and enhancing the quality of medical services.
