Etiologic Agents and Antifungal Susceptibility of Oral Candidosis from Romanian patients with HIV-infection or type 1 diabetes mellitus
Journal Title: Polish Journal of Microbiology - Year 2016, Vol 65, Issue 1
Abstract
This is the first Romanian investigation of oral candidosis in patients suffering of HIV-infection or type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). Candida albicans was the dominant species in both types of isolates: n = 14 (46.7%) in T1DM, n = 60 (69.8%) in HIV. The most frequent non-albicans Candida spp. were Candida kefyr (n = 6; 20%) in T1DM and Candida dubliniensis (n = 8; 9.3%) in HIV. Resistance to fluconazole was detected only in the HIV non-albicans Candida group (n = 8; 9.3%). All isolates were susceptible to VOR. The experimental drug MXP had MIC values equal or close to the ones of VOR. Echinocandin resistance was more frequent than azole resistance.

In Search of the Antimicrobial Potential of Benzimidazole Derivatives
A broad series of 4,5,6,7-tetrahalogenated benzimidazoles and 4-(1H-benzimidazol-2-yl)-benzene-1,3-diol derivatives was tested against selected bacteria and fungi. For this study three plant pathogens Colletotrichum sp.,...
Bacterial Diversity In Çamaltı Saltern, Turkey
A combination of culture-dependent and culture-independent approaches were employed to identify bacterial diversity of Çamaltı solar saltern in Turkey. The bacterial populations of Çamaltı Saltern were analyzed by molecu...
Antiquorum from Freshwater Zoosporic Isolated Fungi: Maximization of Some Ameliorative Factors
Many bacteria detect their critical cell numbers through a mechanism known as Quorum sensing (QS). Acyl homoserine lactone (AHL) mediated QS systems have been shown to operate in important human pathogens. The aim of thi...
Transferrin and Lactoferrin – Human Iron Sources for Enterococci
To overcome limitations in iron acquisition, enterococci have evolved a number of mechanisms to scavenge iron from the host iron-binding proteins – transferrin (TR) and lactoferrin (LF). The aim of this study was to demo...
Genetic Variability and Proteome Profiling of a Radiation Induced Cellulase Mutant Mushroom Pleurotus florida
We report the genetic similarity changes between a mutant mushroom (Pleurotus florida, designated as PfCM4) having increased cellulolytic activity developed through radiation mutagenesis and its wild type by amplified fr...
