Evaluation of clinical utility time of denture relined with resilient materiale, depending on the method used
Journal Title: Prosthodontics - Year 2016, Vol 66, Issue 3
Abstract
Introduction. By relining a new prosthesis it is possible to reduce the number of adjustments and significantly shorten the adaptation period in cases of significant changes in the ground bone and oral mucosa. All adverse changes in the structure, surface and connections with the denture base contribute to the need to exchange the resilient material.Aim of the study. To determine the difference between the clinical durability of resilient relinings in new dentures done with the indirect method before and the direct method after their adaptation.Material and methods. The study population included 39 patients aged 55-84 years. They were wearers of complete settled dentures and extensive partial dentures. The clinical study revealed the need to provide them with new dentures. For relining two materials were used: soft Villacryl (Zhermapol) and Mollosil (Detax). In 20 patients denture relining was performed with the indirect method and in 19 subjects after necessary corrections and pre-adaptation to new restorations, the relining, resilient materials, removable dentures direct method was used to reline prostheses with resilient material.Results. The results were calculated using the Kaplan-Meier estimator of the survival function and the Chi2 test. A six-month follow-up of the prostheses relined with the direct or indirect method did not reveal statistically significant differences between the methods.Conclusions. Both tested methods of relining settled restorations can be recommended for the use in clinical practice.
