Evaluation of new Smart Strip instrument for determination of hemoglobin
Journal Title: Journal of Analytical Bio-Science - Year 2012, Vol 35, Issue 2
Abstract
Before a blood donation for a suitable donor, items are checked as pleasant, safe, and convenient as possible. Among these items are blood specific gravity (SG) or whole blood hemoglobin concentration (Hb conc.). Though the former had long been adopted because of its low cost, the latter is now mainly adopted for a donor's health control. However, the only instrument for determination of Hb conc. was HemoCue Hb 201+ based on colorimetry. However, a new mobile instrument (called Smart Strip) based on amperemetry has been developed. With this instrument, the interference from other blood components was eliminated. Smart Strip was suited for the determinations of Hb at concentrations between 1-20 g/dL. Its within-run precision (C.V.) was 2.6%. A close correlation was found between Smart Strip and other instruments.

Epidemiological study of the relationship between C-reactive protein and diabetes in Japanese females
Recent evidence suggests that a small percentage of chronic inflammations are associated with the onset of diabetes. Based on this association, C-reactive protein (CRP), an inflammatory marker, has been garnering attenti...
Comparison of the reactivity of two kinds of (1→3)-β-D-glucan measurement reagents to fungi
Measurements of (1→3)-β-D-glucan are widely used for the diagnosis of deep mycosis, and the amebocyte lysate of a horseshoe crab is used in (1→3)-β-D-glucan reagent. There are two kinds, Tachypleus tridentatus and Limulu...
The usefulness of validation support reagent in a routine test
In a clinical test, validation is indispensable in order to guarantee the reliability of measurement values and the most fundamental point to be checked. A "Guideline for the validation of quantitative measurement metho...
Turbidimetric measurement of γ-globulin in cerebrospinal fluid with use of sulfosalicylic acid and Triton X-100
We describe a simple, rapid, and cost-effective method using sulfosalicylic acid and Triton X-100 for turbidimetric measurement ofγ-globulin in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). Measurement ofγ-globulin in CSF is an indicator o...
Essential knowledge of carnitine and carnitine deficiency
Carnitine is produced endogenously in the kidneys and liver, and is enriched in mutton and beef. It plays essential roles in the transportation of long-chain fatty acids into the mitochondria for beta-oxidation, in the e...
