Evaluation of pre and post operative status of hepatic and renal function conditions in open cholecystectomy patients
Journal Title: Medpulse International Journal of Surgery - Year 2019, Vol 9, Issue 1
Abstract
Background: Cholecystectomy is one of the most commonly performed abdominal surgical procedures. For the last 150 years, morbidity and mortality for surgical procedures have been accepted as unavoidable parts of the therapeutic process. Since the late 1980s, however, it has become evident that less invasive interventional methods have reduced overall risks of death and morbidity. To aim of our study was to evaluate pre and postoperative status of hepatic and renal function conditions in open cholecystectomy patients. Methods: Total 30 patients with chronic calculus cholecystitis underwent open cholecystectomy during the period of 2017 Jan to 2018 May at Upgraded Department of Surgery, DMCH, Laheriasarai, Darbhanga. Results: The most susceptible age group was 30 – 50 years and female to male ratio was 3.28:1. Liver function tests were done in the per-operative period in all patients. Serum bilirubin, AST and ALT levels were raised significantly in open cholecystectomy All the parameters normalized within seven days after operation. Regarding renal function tests, there was no significant change in routine urine examination and creatinine clearance. There was elevation of serum urea and creatinine level in very few patients due to pneumoperitoneum. They also normalized within seven postoperative days. Conclusion: There occurred significant unexplained disturbance in liver function and renal function in open cholecystectomy. It is suggested that the reason for these phenomenon is the pneumoperitoneum related intra-abdominal hypertension. However as large study group is necessary to obtain more statistically significant result.
