EVALUATION OF PSYCHOEDUCATIONAL PROGRAM ON PSYCHOLOGICAL DISTRESS AMONG SUICIDAL PATIENTS AT EL MINIA POISONING CONTROL CENTER

Abstract
This study aimed at assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the impact of psychoeducational program on the psychological distress of suicidal patients. A pre-post test research design was utilized in this study. Sample of study incorporated of 50 suicidal patients from EL Minia Poisoning Control Center. Socio-demographic and medical data sheet, stress scale, Hamilton depression scale, and Pierce suicide intent scale were used to achieve the purpose of the study. A semi structured interview method was used to collect data from patients. Psychoeducational program was developed and implemented in eight sessions for each group of the patients, and follow up was done after one month. Results of study revealed that the majority of the subjects had high intent for suicide. Statistically significant differences were found between pre, post, and follow up test regarding stress, and depression which means that, stress and depression were improved throughout the program. Also, statistically significant positive correlations were detected between stress, depression and suicide intent. In conclusion, the psychoeducational program had positive impact on psychological distress among suicidal patients. It is recommended that, continued psychoeducational programs are essential to diminish level of psychological distress among suicidal patients and prevent suicidal intent among them.
