Journal Title: Beden Eğitimi ve Spor Araştırmaları Dergisi - Year 2017, Vol 9, Issue 1

Abstract

In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the relationship between the perceived level of Self-Confidence and Self-efficacy of the students of Physical Education and Sports Education Department (PESE) in the Faculty of Sport Sciences (FSS) of Hitit University (HITU). The study sample was consisted (in 2016-2017 school year) of freshmen, sophomores and juniors studying in PESE. A total of 141 students participated in the study. The Self-Confidence scale developed by Akın (2007) was used for measurement. The Self-efficacy scale used for measurement was developed in 1982 by Sherer and his friends. The reliability and validity of the Turkish adaptation of the scale was done in 1999 by Gözüm and Aksayan. ANOVA and paired and independent samples t tests were used to compare the Self-Confidence scores of PESE students. A positive but weak correlation (r(141)=0,281, p<0,01) between the self-efficacy and self-confidence scores of the students was found. There was no difference between Self-Confidence scores and Self-efficacy of PESE students in terms of Gender, Educational Background of Parents, Student’s Year of Education (p>0.05). In terms of academic achievement scores; Self-efficacy scores of students with a GPA above 2.5 were found to be higher than those with a GPA of less than 2.50.
