Evaluation of some qualitative and quantitative traits, strength and quality of safflower seeds obtained from water and dry growing conditions and different plant densities in greenhouse conditions

Journal Title: International Research Journal of Applied and Basic Sciences - Year 2012, Vol 3, Issue 3

Abstract

Strength and quality of safflower seed (Sinai cultivar) in the development and maturation of seeds, water and dry land under cultivation, were evaluated in the crop year 2010 in greenhouse of Faculty of Agriculture University of Mohaghegh Ardabili. The obtained seeds for this experiment were farming in Islamic Azad University, Ardabil Agricultural Research Station, treatments affected plant density and dry and irrigated cultivation conditions. experiment was conducted A factorial in randomized complete block design in 4 replications. Factors including crop type (irrigated and rainfed) and planting density (30, 40, 50 and 60 plants per square meter) whit distance of, respectively (8, 6, 5 and 4 cm). Seeds were sampled at intervals of 18 to 62 days after flowering and were determined the amount of moisture and dry weight and were planted in pots to measure the strength and quality of seeds. Traits measured in this experiment include: changes in seed dry weight, seed moisture content, root length, the cotyledons length, length of normal seedling, shoot fresh weight, percentage of normal seedlings, the percentage of emergence and rate of emergence. Results showed that weight handle end or grain filling period has occurred of 42 days after flowering or 137 days after implantation. Maximum Hypocotyl length and root length were observed on dry conditions at 62 days after flowering. The highest emergence rate were obtained at 45-55 days after flowering that almost simultaneously with the processing power and weight that reflects the high quality seeds were produced in this process. For other quality traits such as percentage of normal seedlings, seedling length and percentage of normal emergenc, The highest strength and quality of seeds has been made in dry conditions and at the end of the sampling, weighing 7 to 9 days after the hearing.
